Casual Academic - School of Communication and Arts

About the role

The University of Queensland Communication and Arts School, part of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and based at the St Lucia campus, is seeking expressions of interest from casual academics and facilitators to teach into its courses. Successful candidates will contribute to the education of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars and tutorials
• Mark assessment items
• Conduct student consultations
• Foster a positive learning environment
• Facilitators also assist in activity-based seminars, tutorials and workshops

Required profile

• Minimum undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 5.0
• Enrolment in a relevant postgraduate program (coursework or HDR) and/or relevant industry experience, ideally in a business or related discipline
• Ongoing unrestricted work rights in Australia
• Demonstrable, effective teaching skills supported by teaching evaluations or other evidence
• Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines

Required skills

• Proficiency in eLearning systems such as Blackboard, or ability to learn new software quickly
• Public speaking and leading small groups highly regarded
