Backfill & Ventilation Engineer – Mining

About the role

We are seeking an energetic Mining Engineer to join the Technical Services team at Bluestone Mines Tasmania’s Renison tin operation. The role focuses on backfill design and optimisation as well as the ongoing major ventilation upgrade at the underground mine.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise cemented rock fill (CRF), limestone rock fill (LRF) and paste backfill processes to maximise ore extraction.
• Manage and monitor the paste fill system, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
• Contribute to the design, construction and commissioning of a multi‑stage ventilation upgrade, including exhaust and fresh‑air systems.
• Provide technical input to the ventilation and backfill team, supporting continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and maintain compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience working in an underground hard‑rock mine.
• Strong commitment to safety and ability to promote safe work practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interaction across all levels.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Deswick software.
• Familiarity with Venetism ventilation modelling tools.
