AWS Data Engineer (Contract) – Sydney

About the role

We are looking for an experienced AWS Data Engineer on a 6‑month contract to design, build and optimise data pipelines for our Sydney‑based team. You will work closely with data, product and DevOps colleagues to deliver end‑to‑end solutions on the AWS platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable data pipelines using Python, PySpark and boto3.
• Integrate data flows with Amazon Redshift for warehousing and perform ingestion and transformation tasks.
• Architect and manage data lakes on Amazon S3.
• Build and maintain batch jobs with AWS Glue, EMR and Lambda.
• Support streaming workflows using Amazon Kinesis.
• Secure data handling with AWS Secrets Manager and KMS.
• Write efficient SQL for querying, transformation and performance tuning.
• Participate in code reviews, debugging and testing to ensure high‑quality delivery.
• Use Git for version control and follow CI/CD best practices.

Required profile

• Strong problem‑solving abilities and clear communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams in an agile environment.
• Experience delivering production‑grade data solutions on AWS.

Required skills

• Python (including Pandas, boto3) and PySpark.
• Apache Airflow or Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (MWAA).
• Amazon Redshift, Amazon S3 and data lake architecture.
• SQL and data modelling.
• AWS core services: EC2, IAM, Lambda.
• AWS Secrets Manager and AWS KMS.
• Batch processing tools: AWS Glue, EMR.
• Streaming: Amazon Kinesis.
• Git version control and CI/CD pipelines.
