About the role
Primo Foods is seeking an Automation Specialist to provide advanced automation engineering and technical support across one of its Wacol sites. The role supports, manages and improves automation solutions while keeping PLC and SCADA systems reliable and performing well. It works closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and other stakeholders to drive operational efficiency, troubleshoot technical issues and deliver automation projects.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting and maintenance for PLC and SCADA systems across the site
- Investigate the root causes of downtime and develop engineering solutions to improve performance
- Respond to programming breakdowns and urgent automation issues
- Plan, execute and close out automation tasks and projects on time and within budget
- Work with the Maintenance Planner on work orders, priorities, technical information and inspection requirements
- Maintain and update PLC documentation, control system schematics, manuals and technical records
- Develop functional specifications for new control processes and automation improvements
- Manage automation projects from implementation to completion
- Design, develop, install, program, commission and fault-find control systems
- Administer and maintain SCADA systems, including databases, screens, backups, alarms, user access and configurations
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience in automation engineering, PLC/SCADA support and automation equipment maintenance in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Project management experience and exposure to SAP
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, computer programming and software development
- High competency with Rockwell and Ignition platforms; knowledge of other PLC systems highly regarded
