Associate Professor – Social Work

About the role

Flinders University is seeking an Associate Professor in Social Work to provide strategic leadership across teaching, research, engagement and service. The role will shape the future of Social Work education and research, driving curriculum innovation, high‑impact scholarship and strong community partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic initiatives in Social Work education, including curriculum design, field education, accreditation and inclusive learning experiences.
• Develop and sustain a high‑quality research programme with competitive funding, publications and knowledge translation.
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with universities, government, professional bodies, industry and community organisations.
• Provide academic leadership through mentoring, supervising Higher Degree Research candidates and fostering a high‑performing culture.
• Represent the discipline nationally and internationally, enhancing the university’s reputation.

Required profile

• PhD in Social Work or a closely related discipline (or equivalent qualification).
• Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• National and/or international reputation for research excellence, demonstrated by high‑impact publications and competitive grant success.
• Proven experience in leading research programmes, securing funding and translating research into policy or practice impact.
• Strong record of curriculum innovation, accreditation processes and field education management.
• Demonstrated ability to build strategic partnerships and engage with diverse stakeholders.
