Associate, Payment Operations

About the role

The Payment Operations Associate ensures that payments and term deposit transactions are processed accurately and within required timeframes. The role also supports the settlement of Global Financial Markets transactions while adhering to established procedures and cut‑off times.

Key responsibilities

• Process business‑as‑usual payment and term deposit transactions as maker, ensuring complete and authorised instructions for checker review.
• Support processing and settlement of GFM transactions in line with documented procedures and cut‑off times.
• Complete reconciliations, control checklists and transaction monitoring within agreed service levels.
• Identify and promptly escalate transaction exceptions, outstanding items, operational incidents and potential control issues.
• Maintain accurate supporting records to meet internal policies, regulatory obligations and audit requirements.
• Assist with user acceptance testing, projects, system enhancements and head‑office initiatives affecting cash and GFM operations.

Required profile

• 1–3 years of hands‑on experience in payment operations, preferably within financial services.
• Working knowledge of domestic and international payment processing, including SWIFT MT/MX, Direct Entry and BPAY.
• Experience with maker‑checker controls, payment cut‑off times, reconciliation processes and escalation protocols.

Required skills

• SWIFT MT and MX messaging
• Direct Entry and BPAY processing
• Knowledge of RITS, Austraclear or Murex systems (desirable)
• Understanding of operational risk, AML/CTF, sanctions and IFTI reporting obligations
