Associate - IP, Data & Technology Lawyer

About the role

Deloitte Legal is hiring an experienced lawyer for its intangibles, data and technology team in the Brisbane office. The associate advises on intellectual property, technology, data, digital transformation, commercialisation and innovation matters, working closely with the Brisbane Partner and Director.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on technology-enabled transactions, intangibles structuring, data and AI governance, commercialisation arrangements and strategic advisory work for large organisations, government and research sector clients.
• Coordinate end-to-end engagement delivery, including managing client interactions and coordinating work done by team members.
• Provide legal services in an innovative, technology-enabled way and work with local and global Deloitte teams such as Tax, Strategy, Risk and Transactions, and Technology and Assurance.

Required profile

• Queensland Practising Certificate, or admitted and eligible to hold one.
• At least 4 years of post-admission experience in a leading law firm or in-house environment.
• Experience drafting, negotiating and advising on IP and technology contracts, and advising on technology, data, digital transformation, software, AI or innovation matters.
• Strong understanding of IP concepts and legal issues in broader commercial transactions.
• Ability to work autonomously under the supervision of a Legal Practitioner Director and Managing Associate, and to take an active leadership role on engagements.
• Highly regarded: a background in technology, computer science, software engineering, data analytics, information systems or STEM fields, corporate and commercial law experience, and experience in data and privacy, technology procurement, digital transformation, research commercialisation, software licensing, cybersecurity, AI governance or IP commercialisation.
