Assistant Accountant

About the role

Kimberley Mineral Sands (KMS), a 50/50 joint venture between Sheffield Resources Limited and YGH Australia Investment Pty Ltd, is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join its finance team and support the financial operations of the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Mine in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, the role covers day-to-day financial activities such as financial reporting, reconciliations, cash flow management and month-end processes, working within a small finance team. The roster is Monday to Friday, based in the Broome office.

Key responsibilities

• Support the preparation of BAS, tax and statutory lodgements, as well as audit and half-year review requirements.
• Support month-end and year-end close, including journals and reconciliations, and prepare recharge invoices, intercompany reconciliations and other financial schedules.
• Assist with daily bank reconciliations and banking administration, including daily and monthly cash flow forecasts.
• Maintain accurate financial records and compliance with company policies and approval frameworks, and identify ways to improve finance processes, controls and reporting.
• Support the end-to-end Accounts Payable and Payroll functions.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, with a desire to work towards CPA/CA qualifications.
• Current WA C-Class driver's licence.
• Demonstrated experience in a similar accounting or finance support role; resources sector experience highly desirable.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and act with integrity and confidentiality in a small finance team.

Required skills

• Strong Microsoft Office and Excel skills.
• Experience using finance ERP systems.
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail and strong communication skills.
