Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a proactive Assistant Accountant to join the finance team at the Royal Motor Yacht Club Newport. Working on‑site in a vibrant waterfront environment, you will support the Finance Manager with payroll, reporting and day‑to‑day financial operations.

Key responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll and maintain employee records.
• Prepare and reconcile payroll tax, superannuation and leave provisions.
• Assist with monthly journals, bank reconciliations and financial reporting.
• Manage BAS lodgements and support financial audits.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, accounts payable and petty cash.
• Support fixed‑asset and stock management.
• Maintain accurate financial records and contribute to process improvements.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or related field (or currently studying).
• Minimum 3 years experience in an Assistant Accountant role.
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and reconciliation abilities.
• Excellent communication and a team‑first attitude.
• Experience in a club or hospitality setting is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero and Accpac accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Payroll processing and accounting compliance knowledge.
