Area Manager - Thoroughbred Stud Farm

About the role

Yulong Stud, located in Nagambie, Victoria, is seeking an experienced Area Manager to lead and motivate a team on one of its farms. The successful candidate will oversee daily farm operations and play a key role in the success and efficiency of the wider stud operation. The role suits someone with previous experience in a similar position and good knowledge of the thoroughbred industry.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operations of one of the stud's farms.
• Lead and develop a team under the direction of the Stud Manager, ensuring effective and precise communication.
• Assist with foaling preparation and support foaling operations and newborn foal care.
• Ensure mares and foals receive appropriate feed, water and daily care.
• Assist with breeding preparations and reproductive management activities.
• Oversee the daily care, development and wellbeing of yearlings, and help prepare them for sales and parades.
• Maintain accurate health and treatment records, and monitor facilities, paddocks and paddock movements.
• Liaise with veterinarians and farriers, and work in line with management direction.

Required profile

• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role preferred.
• Experience in horse nutrition and pasture management highly regarded.
• Sound understanding of the broodmare reproductive system, including record keeping for vetting during the breeding season.
• Ability to work within a team as well as independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Approachable, with a desire to achieve great results and attention to detail.
• Current driver's licence; a truck licence is desirable.

Required skills

• Time management and prioritisation.
• Solid organisational and planning skills.
• Ability to encourage staff and educate them about horse care.
• Computer literacy; experience with Ardex, Excel and Word is an advantage.
