Architectural Graduate / Graduate Building Designer

About the role

Structability, a consulting engineering and building design firm based in Southern Sydney, is looking for an Architectural Draftsperson. The firm specialises in the architectural, structural and civil design of residential buildings, mostly for existing buildings damaged by fire, tree or vehicle impact. The role centres on lodging Development Applications through the council portal, managing the process end to end and preparing documents such as Statements of Environmental Effects and Waste Management Plans. It suits someone organised and detail-focused, comfortable with paperwork and compliance rather than design or creative work.

Key responsibilities

• Draft architectural, structural and civil design drawings and prepare detailed documentation for waterproofing, flashing, detailing, sections and windows.
• Conduct site inspections and gather site measurements of existing buildings.
• Prepare detailed architectural and structural drawings using AutoCAD.
• Lodge DA applications on the council portal, manage the DA process and prepare Statements of Environmental Effects and Waste Management Plans.
• Coordinate with subconsultants including heritage specialists, bushfire consultants, stormwater engineers, structural and civil engineers, surveyors and arborists.
• Prepare CDC / CC certificates and visualise architectural plans and preliminary structural outlines to assist designers.

Required profile

• Relevant degree and/or TAFE certification; expected to have achieved or be near completion of qualifications.
• Practical experience in the NSW home building industry, including knowledge of the BCA.
• Willingness to learn on the job if no prior experience.
• Strong organisation, attention to detail and ability to follow strict guidelines and meet tight deadlines.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
