Apprentice Chef - River Cruise Ship

About the role

The PS Australian Star is looking for an Apprentice Chef to join its kitchen team. You will learn and develop your culinary skills under the guidance of the Head Chef and Sous Chef, assisting in meal preparation and cooking while maintaining high standards of food quality and hygiene. The job starts in October 2025 and pays above market salary.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients and cook dishes according to the menu, following recipes and techniques taught by senior kitchen staff
• Maintain strict adherence to food safety regulations, hygiene standards and sanitation practices, and take part in food safety training
• Assist in plating dishes to the Head Chef's standards of presentation and aesthetics
• Help monitor kitchen inventory and order supplies, and ensure proper storage and rotation of ingredients
• Assist in cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas, and help keep the kitchen organised and efficient
• Work as part of the kitchen team, communicating effectively with the Head Chef, Sous Chef and other crew members
• Develop culinary skills through hands-on experience and guidance from senior staff

Required profile

• Pursuing or completed a degree or diploma in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management or a related field is preferred but not required
• Passion for cooking and a strong desire to learn and grow in the culinary field
• Familiarity with basic cooking techniques and kitchen operations
• Strong attention to detail in food preparation and presentation
• Ability to work well in a team and adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment
