AML Compliance Officer - Relocate to Sydney

About the role

A Sydney-based law firm with a growing practice in commercial litigation, insolvency, commercial, wills and estates, property and family law is seeking an AML professional to bring New Zealand experience to Australia. This is a full-time position in the Sydney CBD, and relocation to Sydney is required. The role supports the day-to-day delivery of the firm's anti-money laundering (AML) framework, coordinating due diligence, monitoring, escalations, recordkeeping and quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage AML cases in First AML from setup to completion
• Review client information and beneficial ownership, and coordinate CDD or EDD
• Review PEP, sanctions and adverse screening results and escalate concerns
• Track ongoing CDD reviews and escalations with clear audit records
• Support AML reporting, quality assurance, testing and process improvement
• Be the go-to person for First AML queries, guide staff and support training

Required profile

• Experience in compliance, risk, legal operations, conveyancing, paralegal or regulated environments
• Understanding of client onboarding, identity verification, beneficial ownership and screening
• Full Australian working rights (e.g. NZ citizenship) and willingness to relocate to Sydney

Required skills

• Strong systems skills; First AML, Practice Evolve or Microsoft 365 is an advantage
• Attention to detail, organisation and recordkeeping
• Clear communication and sound judgement on when to escalate
