Aluminium Smelter Operator

About the role

Bell Bay Aluminium, operated by Rio Tinto, is seeking experienced operators to join its team. Vacancies are expected next year, and the role supports the operational departments in ensuring the safe and sustainable production of aluminium. It is a hot, physically demanding environment with manual work, within a close-knit team, with permanent employment, negotiable start dates and lifestyle rosters.

Key responsibilities

• Operate cranes to set anodes and tap metal, and other tasks to tend the cells
• Process operations such as cell dressings, filling cell ore hoppers, tapping and transferring bath
• Drive mobile equipment as required, including forklifts
• Use control panels, cast hot metal, operate fixed plant equipment, use scabble guns, isolate and de-isolate equipment for maintenance teams, sample processes and keep the area clean
• Transport metal with specialised equipment, prepare furnaces, operate casting pits and ingot machines, inspect products and quality control, run cutting saws, fabricate M-straps and handle dross

Required profile

• Experience in a labour-intensive role in hot environments, at heights and in confined spaces
• Current driver's licence; forklift licence and other tickets highly desirable
• Commitment to safety and ability to work as part of a team and manage your own workload
• Ability to work 12-hour day and night shifts (previous shift experience highly desirable)
