After School Care Educator

About the role

North Sydney Community Centre's After School Care program offers local school children aged 5-12 a fun, creative and connected afternoon. It is an entry-level position offering hands-on experience and a solid foundation for a career in child care, with pathways to more senior roles for those who show initiative and a commitment to continuous learning.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a programme of structured and free-play activities, leading at least two engaging activities each week
• Collect children daily from North Sydney Demonstration School
• Prepare healthy afternoon tea options and involve children where possible
• Help set up and pack down shared spaces and share ideas with colleagues and team leaders
• Build relationships with children, families and staff, and record daily reflections and report incidents
• Follow WHS procedures, take part in evacuation drills and keep the space clean and safe

Required profile

• Working with Children Check (WWCC), Police Check and two referees; the police check cost is reimbursed once employed
• Enjoys spending time with children and brings energy, creativity and a positive attitude to every shift
• Reliable team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Pride in a safe, clean and welcoming environment, and openness to feedback and learning

Required skills

• Desirable: previous experience in an OOSH, education or childcare setting
• Desirable: up-to-date First Aid Certificate
• Desirable: awareness of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and NSW Child Safety Standards training
