Advanced Trainee – Geriatric Medicine

About the role

The Advanced Trainee position provides supervised medical services while developing expertise in geriatric medicine within a complex clinical environment. The role involves rotations across inpatient and outpatient settings across the Hunter New England Local Health District.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver effective patient care under supervision in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams across community services, orthogeriatrics, psychogeriatrics, aged‑care rehabilitation, and rural acute/sub‑acute units.
• Undertake clinical rotations at John Hunter Hospital, Belmont District Hospital, Maitland Hospital, Rankin Park Centre and Calvary Mater Newcastle.
• Develop and refine clinical assessment and management skills specific to older adults.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent qualification.
• Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Minimum of four postgraduate years completed.
• Successful completion of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) Divisional Clinical Exam or equivalent.
• Eligibility to commence sub‑specialty training in Geriatrics Medicine in Australia.
