Accountant – Commercial Finance & Business Partner

About the role

We are a fast‑growing IT business in Sydney CBD seeking a hands‑on Accountant to join our finance team. Working closely with the Head of Finance, you will partner with operational stakeholders and gain direct exposure to billing, procurement, inventory and cash‑flow decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee transactional finance: billing cycles, AR/AP integrity and general ledger management.
• Prepare month‑end financial reporting, profit & loss statements, balance‑sheet reconciliations and consolidated reports.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, monitoring and working‑capital improvement.
• Reconcile merchant facilities (credit card, EFTPOS, online gateways).
• Support inventory, cost accounting and revenue‑recognition processes.
• Produce management reporting packs with financial commentary and analysis.
• Contribute to budgeting, rolling forecasts and commercial insights such as margin analysis and pricing reviews.
• Develop KPI dashboards (DSO, DPO, billing accuracy, cost ratios) and partner with operations, sales and procurement.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and identify process‑improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
• CA, CPA or equivalent qualification (or near completion).
• 3–5 years of experience in a broad accounting or commercial finance role.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations and month‑end processes.
• Practical experience managing AR, AP, billing and general‑ledger activities.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (including complex formulas and pivot tables).
• Power BI or similar data‑visualisation tools.
• Experience with ERP systems and billing platforms.
• Familiarity with financial data environments and merchant‑facility reconciliation.
