Account Manager, SMB

About the role

Small businesses fuel Australia’s economy and you’ll partner with them to thrive using Square’s suite of tools. This role combines outreach, consultative conversations, and business coaching to help merchants get the most from Square.

Key responsibilities

• Own, retain, and grow a portfolio of SMB merchants through tailored adoption of Square tools.
• Act as the voice of merchants within Square, advocating for their needs and surfacing insights.
• Build trusted relationships with top merchants while maintaining consultative connections across the wider portfolio.
• Drive expansion via product adoption, upselling, and value‑based recommendations.
• Balance proactive outreach, retention activities, and growth opportunities through strong organisation and time management.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Sales, Product, Support) to deliver tailored solutions.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in account management, sales, or consultative roles.
• Consultative, customer‑first mindset with a passion for helping SMBs succeed.
• Strong organisational and time‑management skills to handle high‑volume outreach and follow‑up.
• Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complex ideas.
• Commercial acumen and curiosity about small‑business drivers.
• Growth mindset and builder’s mentality, eager to experiment and improve.
• Track record of delivering measurable outcomes and being perceived as a trusted advisor.
