Academic Convener, Pacific Security College

About the role

The Pacific Security College, funded by the Australian Government and part of the Crawford School of Public Policy within the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy, is looking for an Academic Convener. Reporting to the Director, the convener provides academic leadership in the design, delivery and ongoing improvement of the College's education and professional development programs, working closely with colleagues and Pacific partners so that programs are academically rigorous, practically relevant and responsive to regional security priorities. The position is full-time, fixed term until 30 November 2029, at Academic Level C.

Key responsibilities

• Develop curricula and learning materials, and convene and deliver courses and workshops.
• Coordinate contributions from academic and practitioner experts and evaluate learning outcomes.
• Connect research, policy and practice to strengthen the capacity of Pacific officials to address complex security challenges.
• Contribute to the College's research, policy engagement and academic partnerships with governments, universities and regional institutions.
• Travel to Pacific island countries will be required.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline, or equivalent qualifications and professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience designing, convening and delivering high-quality education or professional development programs.
• Strong record of research, policy engagement or professional contributions consistent with Academic Level C.
• Ability to translate complex research and policy issues into accessible learning for government officials and practitioners.
• Collaborative approach, respectful of Pacific contexts and cultures; initiative, judgement and ability to manage competing priorities.
