3rd Steward / General Hand

About the role

The 3rd Steward/General Hand provides essential support to the guest services team and helps keep the vessel running smoothly. The role covers guest accommodation, dining and bar support, mooring, luggage handling and general cleaning. It is described as an important entry-level position aboard PS Australian Star, starting in October 2025, with remuneration stated as above market salary.

Key responsibilities

• Guest accommodation: help prepare and maintain guest cabins and assist guests with accommodation requests
• Dining and bar: assist dining room staff and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks according to recipes and preferences
• Mooring: help secure the boat with ropes and support crew with vessel operations
• Engine supply: supply wood for the engine, monitor stock levels and report discrepancies
• Luggage: help guests load and unload luggage and deliver it to the right cabins
• Cleaning and maintenance: clean communal areas, decks and other facilities and help with daily upkeep
• Health and safety: follow food safety and sanitation standards and take part in safety training
• Events: support the execution of onboard events and activities

Required profile

• Previous hospitality, tourism or customer service experience is an asset
• Experience with manual labour such as mooring, rope handling and physical work is beneficial
• Previous bar work preparing and serving drinks is an advantage
• Familiarity with health and safety regulations
• Strong attention to detail, communication and teamwork skills, willingness to learn and adapt to changing demands
