Veterinary Nursing Internship – Emergency & Referral (Homebush)

About the role

This 12‑month Veterinary Nursing Internship is designed for qualified veterinary nurses with general practice experience who want to develop expertise in emergency and specialist referral care. You will spend most of the year in the Emergency & Critical Care service and rotate through specialty departments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide emergency triage, patient assessment and clinical reasoning for acute cases.
• Nurse hospitalized emergency and critical care patients, monitoring and responding to changes in condition.
• Assist with emergency procedures such as CPR, intubation, thoracocentesis and advanced patient monitoring.
• Administer CRIs, blood products, transfusions, advanced analgesia and emergency medications.
• Rotate through specialty departments (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Cardiology) gaining exposure to complex cases.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) with at least 1 year of general practice experience.
• Genuine interest in emergency & critical care and referral nursing.
• Curious, motivated and comfortable asking questions and receiving feedback.
• Organised, adaptable and a good communicator in a busy team environment.

Required skills

• Emergency triage and patient assessment.
• Administration of CRIs, blood products, transfusion medicine and advanced analgesia.
• Performing CPR, intubation, thoracocentesis and advanced patient monitoring.
• Clinical reasoning for complex medical, surgical and specialty cases.
