Union Organiser - NTEU Tasmania

About the role

The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) is recruiting a Union Organiser for its small, dedicated Tasmanian team, based in Hobart and primarily supporting members at the University of Tasmania. This is an ongoing part-time position at 0.5 FTE (about 17.5 hours per week), with the option to move to full-time hours (37.5 hours per week) through a fixed-term arrangement. Pay is $102,629-$127,020 per annum (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

Key responsibilities

• Grow membership by connecting with workers and showing the value of union representation.
• Identify, mentor and support union representatives, empowering workplace leaders.
• Build networks across university campuses and regional worksites.
• Drive workplace organising, advocacy and union campaigns.
• Engage and inspire members through face-to-face conversations, events and digital communications.

Required profile

• Experience in union organising, community advocacy, campaigning or a similar people-focused environment.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust and relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to motivate and organise people around shared goals.
• A genuine commitment to workers' rights, fairness and social justice.
• Initiative, enthusiasm and drive to make things happen.
