Transport Planner / Traffic Engineer (Mid to Senior)

About the role

Aurecon is expanding its Integrated Transport & Mobility practice and is looking for a mid‑to‑senior Transport Planner/Traffic Engineer. The role can be based in Sydney, Newcastle or Canberra and involves delivering transport impact assessments and strategic planning for major development and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver Transport Impact Assessments for complex projects.
• Contribute to strategic transport planning, active transport and multimodal access studies.
• Support or manage projects end‑to‑end, including scope, programme, budget and risk.
• Engage directly with clients, approval authorities and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Aurecon.
• Assist in business development and client relationship growth.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in transport planning or traffic engineering.
• 5–10 years of experience in transport planning/traffic engineering.
• Strong experience preparing and reviewing Transport Impact Assessments.
• Sound technical judgement working with data, modelling outputs and policy frameworks.
• Experience supporting or leading project delivery.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborative mindset with an interest in mentoring others.
