Transition to Mental Health Nurse

About the role

Mercy Health is recruiting a Transition to Mental Health Nurse for its 54-bedded acute inpatient mental health unit, the Clare Moore Building at Werribee Mercy Hospital. The 12-month program is part of an entry-level learning program designed to help experienced registered nurses develop mental health nursing skills. It runs from 8 February 2027, part time at 64 hours per fortnight, with AM, PM and night shifts across a Monday-to-Sunday roster.

Key responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, responsive care to people in the mental health unit
• Develop skills in mental state examination, risk assessment, recovery care plans and other aspects of mental health nursing
• Take part in clinical skills competencies, case presentations and individual and group clinical supervision supported by Clinical Nurse Educators
• Complete the program, which can lead to credit pathway towards a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing at participating universities

Required profile

• AHPRA registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse
• At least 12 months of clinical experience in an acute setting
• Desire to complete a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
• Full Australian working rights (minimum 64 hours per fortnight)
• Resilient, compassionate and committed to patient-centred care
• Excellent clinical, time management, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to adapt and problem solve
• Ability to build respectful relationships and work in a collaborative team
• Current police record check and Working with Children check, and current COVID-19 certificate and influenza vaccination
