Training Advisor – Open Pit Mining (FIFO)

About the role

GMS is looking for an experienced Open Pit Training Advisor to lead high‑value technical training at its West Australian gold operation. This FIFO position will support surface mining teams, ensuring safe and efficient pit operations while developing the capability of employees and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver practical on‑site training including VOCs, site‑specific courses, machine competency and inductions.
• Design, refine and implement training procedures aligned with WA legislation, Australian standards and national training packages.
• Maintain and analyse workforce training records, TNA data and WHS metrics to guide development planning.
• Partner with operational leaders to identify skill gaps and upskilling opportunities.
• Coordinate with RTOs and specialist vendors for high‑risk licences, first aid and compliance training.
• Monitor WHS and training data, report trends and support incident investigations.

Required profile

• Current C‑Class manual driver’s licence.
• Proven experience as an Open Pit Training Advisor or similar role in mining.
• Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
• Strong understanding of adult learning principles and WHS legislation.
• Excellent communication and technical writing skills.

Required skills

• Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
• Knowledge of WA WHS legislation and Australian mining standards.
• Proficiency with training and incident management software (e.g., INX InControl, InTuition, LMS).
