Trainee Laboratory Technician

About the role

Cement Australia is looking for a motivated person to join its Central Laboratory in Darra, Brisbane, as a Trainee Laboratory Technician. The laboratory tests cement, concrete and related products for the construction industry. As a trainee you will rotate between laboratory stations, gain hands-on training while completing a nationally recognised Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, and work alongside experienced laboratory professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine testing of cement, concrete and related products
• Learn and perform manual testing methods
• Develop skills in chemical analysis
• Learn how to operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment
• Conduct analysis as part of investigations
• Interpret data and develop technical problem-solving skills
• Maintain high standards of laboratory housekeeping
• Learn and apply laboratory procedures and quality requirements
• Contribute to a safe, collaborative and positive work environment

Required profile

• Genuine interest in laboratory work, science, testing or the construction industry
• Willingness and commitment to complete a Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to follow procedures and work safely
• Good problem-solving and analytical skills
• Positive attitude, good communication and teamwork skills
• Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
• Previous experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, construction, mining or other industrial environment is advantageous but not essential
