Trades Assistant

About the role

Gemco Rail is seeking a full‑time Trades Assistant to support trade staff in the maintenance, manufacture and refurbishment of rail rolling stock at its Forrestfield facility.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on assistance to skilled tradespeople in workshop and on‑site activities.
• Carry out tasks in line with established procedures, ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with Rail Safety and OH&S regulations.
• Report to the Production/Workshop and Safety Supervisor, Wheel Shop.

Required profile

• Experience assisting skilled or trade persons with a strong mechanical aptitude.
• High Risk Work Licence – Forklift (essential) and willingness to work rosters, including overtime and weekend shifts.
• Medically fit, physically capable and hold a current Australian driver’s licence.
• Ability to understand and comply with Rail Safety and Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

Required skills

• Forklift licence (High Risk Work Licence).
• Rigging, dogging and overhead crane operation (desirable).
• Current Australian driver’s licence.
