Technology Lawyer / Senior Associate

About the role

Clayton Utz is seeking a Technology Lawyer / Senior Associate to join its market-leading IP and Technology practice in Brisbane. The role sits at the forefront of complex technology and outsourcing projects for Australian and international clients, advising on intellectual property, privacy and artificial intelligence. It is based in the Brisbane office and involves working with Partners Simon Newcomb and Cameron Gascoyne across private and public sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to a successful and impactful team within a top-tier practice in Brisbane.
• Work on large, complex matters for a variety of clients.
• Advise on technology and outsourcing projects, covering intellectual property, privacy and artificial intelligence.
• Work closely with Partners Simon Newcomb and Cameron Gascoyne, in a team where AI tools are used in legal work.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of post-qualification experience in a private practice.
• A strong academic record of achievement.
• Interest in technology trends and the legal and regulatory issues of emerging technologies (prior experience with technology contracts is not essential).
• Attention to detail and the ability to draft clear, commercially oriented advice.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building client relationships.
• Collegiate mindset, positive attitude and respect for peers.

Required skills

• Exceptional technical skills, especially contract drafting.
• Superior written and verbal expression, able to explain complex concepts concisely.
• Creativity and unconventional problem-solving.
