Job description
About the role
John Curtin College of the Arts (JCCA) is establishing a pool of Drama teachers for permanent and fixed-term, full-time and part-time vacancies that may arise during the 2027 school year, with appointments possible at any time. The position is advertised as part of a recruitment pilot that simplifies the application process: a mandatory CV template is provided, and only two AITSL domains are answered at application stage.
Required profile
- Eligible teacher qualification and registration.
- Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid visa with work rights for the term of appointment.
- Applicant must apply for a WA Working with Children Check and consent to a criminal history check.
- Substantial professional knowledge and experience delivering an engaging, rigorous secondary Drama curriculum for gifted students.
- Experience teaching ATAR Drama in Year 11 and Year 12, with a strong understanding of the WACE Drama syllabus, is highly desirable.
- Experience preparing and marking ATAR Drama practical and written examinations is highly regarded.
- Established connections with the professional arts and theatre industry, and practical experience directing and managing theatrical productions from page to stage, are highly desirable.
Required skills
- Ability to work independently through the production process: interpreting scripts, directing performers, developing staging and performance concepts, and plotting, teaching and dressing productions.
- Collaborative capacity in curriculum planning, assessment and delivery, and comfort sharing classes and responsibility for student learning.
- Evidence-based, inclusive and student-centred practice, with differentiation for highly able and gifted learners.
What we offer
- Competitive salaries and flexible working arrangements.
- Training and career development opportunities.
- Leave provisions.
Applications are made online using only the attached CV template, with teaching history, qualifications and professional development, and two character-limited responses to Professional Knowledge and Professional Engagement (about 400 words each).
