Tax Accountant – Cairns, Far North Queensland

About the role

This is a full‑time Tax Accountant position with a well‑established independent accounting firm serving Far North Queensland. You will work across tax, accounting and business services for a diverse client base, building strong relationships and contributing to client success.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements and income tax returns.
• Prepare BAS and other compliance work.
• Support clients on tax and business services matters.
• Use SME accounting software such as MYOB and Xero.
• Assist with tax planning and general advisory support.
• Communicate professionally and responsively with clients.
• Collaborate with senior team members to deliver accurate, timely work.
• Develop technical capability across a broad public‑practice client base.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in an Australian accounting firm.
• Experience across tax and business services.
• Strong technical capability and attention to detail.
• Sound working knowledge of MYOB and Xero.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional presentation and high client‑service standards.
• Ambition to continue developing within public practice.
• Team‑focused attitude and willingness to contribute to firm culture.
