Systems Administrator

About the role

Kapsch is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to join its Melbourne team on a full‑time permanent basis. You will manage complex infrastructure projects within the transport industry, ensuring high availability and security.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Level 2 escalation point for infrastructure troubleshooting, diagnostics and remediation.
• Manage and maintain servers, virtual machines, hypervisors, storage systems, networks and supporting software across multiple locations.
• Ensure systems align with cybersecurity requirements, patching schedules and certificate management.
• Define, maintain and update system manuals, configuration baselines and operational procedures.
• Participate in a rotating 24/7 on‑call roster and provide occasional after‑hours support.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related (preferred).
• 3+ years experience in infrastructure, systems administration or technical operations.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to work independently in a live operational environment.
• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotational roster and respond after hours.

Required skills

• Windows Server administration.
• Virtualisation platforms such as VMware.
• LAN/WAN networking, firewalls, VLANs, routing and security concepts.
• Backup, recovery and monitoring systems.
• Security hardening, vulnerability management, patching and certificate handling.
• OT knowledge and experience with edge devices.
