Systems Administrator

About the role

Kapsch is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to join its Melbourne team on a full‑time permanent basis. You will work on complex, cutting‑edge transport technology projects and act as the Level 2 escalation point for infrastructure issues.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Level 2 escalation for infrastructure troubleshooting, diagnostics and remediation.
• Serve as Subject Matter Expert for security hardening, vulnerability management, baselining cycles and commercial software upgrades.
• Manage and maintain servers, virtual machines, hypervisors, storage systems, networks and supporting software across multiple locations.
• Ensure systems align with cybersecurity requirements, patching schedules and certificate management processes.
• Define and update system manuals, configuration baselines and operational procedures.
• Participate in planning and scoping of new system implementations and operational transitions.
• Support renewals, licences, certificates and third‑party vendor engagements.
• Provide occasional after‑hours support and take part in a rotating 24/7 on‑call roster.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar (preferred).
• 3+ years of experience in infrastructure, systems administration or technical operations.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to work independently in a live operational environment.
• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotational roster and respond after hours when needed.

Required skills

• Windows Server administration.
• Virtualisation platforms such as VMware.
• LAN/WAN networking, firewalls, VLANs, routing and security concepts.
• Backup, recovery and monitoring systems.
• Security fundamentals, vulnerability management, patching and certificate handling.
• OT knowledge/experience with edge devices.
• ITIL Foundation or relevant vendor certifications (preferred).
