Switchboard Builder

About the role

JLE Group is looking for an experienced Switchboard Electrician for its Manufacturing & Hire division, based in Newcastle. The role involves stable, workshop-based work building high-voltage electrical equipment for major construction projects, renewables and data centres. The electrician assembles, wires and tests switchboards, distribution boards and related LV/MV systems safely and in line with AS/NZS standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, wire and fit off electrical switchboards and distribution boards.
• Install components such as breakers, relays, busbars, cabling systems and protection devices.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and layout drawings.
• Complete panel layouts and internal wiring according to design documentation.
• Test equipment using continuity, insulation resistance (IR) and functional checks.
• Rectify defects, assist with Factory Acceptance Testing and site commissioning, and complete QA documentation, ITPs and test records.
• Maintain redline drawings and as-built documentation, and follow WHS, SWMS, lockout/tagout and isolation procedures.
• Mentor apprentices and junior trades where required.

Required profile

• NSW Electrical Licence and Electrical Trade Qualification.
• Experience in switchboard manufacturing.
• Desirable: 7-12 years' experience in the trade.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 61439.
• Knowledge of WHS and compliance requirements.
• Desirable: interpretation of standards and codes of practice, and planning and organisational skills.
