Surveyor - Civil Infrastructure

About the role

Astrea, a civil construction company based in New South Wales, is hiring a Surveyor in Brendale, Brisbane. The role involves measuring the size and shape of land, locating boundaries of public or private land, setting out land and building developments, and surveying and modelling underground public utility mains with survey equipment. All work must follow company operating procedures to protect site safety.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and model the depth of utilities such as water, sewer, gas, cable and electric lines
• Check previous records and evidence so that data is accurate
• Research and design methods for survey processes
• Use equipment and tools to measure land features (longitudes, latitudes)
• Build maps and sketches
• Communicate with clients, site contacts and management
• Use electrical, magnetic, blueprint analysis and/or radar techniques to measure utilities
• Complete surveying tasks safely, professionally and efficiently, keeping equipment and vehicles maintained
• Prepare job requirements such as DBYD information, field notes and design files
• Carry out a Job Safety Analysis before each shift and follow the IMS, quality, safety and environmental policies
• Fill out paperwork correctly and enter data for specific jobs
• Build effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, site officials and customers, manage time and work independently and in a team

Required profile

• 2 years of experience in the civil construction industry, surveying
• Broad understanding of subsurface utility engineering standards and legislative compliance
• Experience operating and maintaining survey instruments and laser scanners
• Ability to work independently and in a team, and to manage time effectively
