Superintendent – Contractor Management, Site Work & HSE

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Superintendent to lead contractor management, site work and health, safety and environment (HSE) activities across its Perth hub. The role ensures that IS&T vendor‑delivered work is planned, governed and executed safely and predictably, supporting contract owners before supplier mobilisation.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with delivery leads, project managers and contract owners to strengthen planning and definition of site‑based work prior to mobilisation.
• Coach contract owners on scope development, supplier qualification, execution methodologies and safe work design.
• Identify and escalate planning gaps that could introduce safety, schedule or productivity risks.
• Own contractor management demand and capacity forecasting across the PMO portfolio.
• Allocate CMS Supervisors as subject‑matter experts across portfolios, programs and projects.
• Maintain IS&T APAC HSES procedures, systems and data, and support incident response and improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to safety for self, team and all contractors on site.
• Solid understanding of WA WHS (Mines) regulations and workplace health and safety legislation.
• Experience applying HSES principles to work design, planning assurance and risk reduction.
• Proven ability to support or lead incident investigations using HSES tools.
• Capability in contractor, supplier and performance management within complex delivery environments.
• Confidence engaging with project managers, delivery leads and site stakeholders to influence safe outcomes.
