Submarine Construction Assurance Engineer (Mechanical & Electrical)

About the role

The Australian Submarine Agency is seeking APS6 engineers to provide independent technical oversight for the construction of nuclear‑powered submarines. You will ensure mechanical and electrical systems meet design intent, safety standards and quality requirements within a highly complex, safety‑critical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement ASA Engineering Management System plans, processes and procedures for construction technical assurance.
• Conduct surveillance, inspection and verification of mechanical and electrical system installation, integration and testing.
• Assess compliance of submarine systems against design specifications, engineering standards and safety requirements.
• Identify risks, defects and non‑conformances, supporting investigation and resolution.
• Produce objective quality evidence to support certification and acceptance.
• Collaborate with shipbuilders, suppliers and ASA technical specialists to resolve complex engineering issues.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering qualification (Mechanical or Electrical) and experience in complex, safety‑critical projects.
• Demonstrated ability to apply sound engineering judgement in high‑risk environments.
• Strong analytical skills with experience in risk identification and mitigation.
