Structural Engineering Discipline Manager

About the role

Primero, a multi-national engineering, procurement and construction business and subsidiary of NRW Holdings, is seeking an experienced Structural Engineering Discipline Manager to lead its structural engineering team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role covers technical delivery, mentoring junior and senior engineers and managing client stakeholders. It is a hands-on position combining technical expertise with people management, based at the new head office in Osborne Park, Western Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and design assurance for complex steel, concrete and hybrid structures for mining/minerals processing, resource and energy projects.
• Mentor engineers and drive their technical excellence and professional growth.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and refine engineering standards.
• Help develop project plans, schedules, budgets and discipline-specific resource allocations.
• Deliver practical, constructable engineering solutions and ensure designs meet legislation, standards and client requirements.
• Review, verify and formally approve structural calculations, technical reports, specifications and design deliverables.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams and engage with clients and vendors to resolve technical issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Civil Engineering recognised by IEAust.
• 15+ years of structural engineering and project delivery experience in steel and concrete structures for mining, mineral processing, resource and heavy industrial sectors.
• Proven leadership of structural engineering teams as Discipline Manager or at Principal Engineering level.
• Advanced people management skills and commitment to continued professional development.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of design theory, principles and practices, and of industry standards and codes of practice.
• Experience with structural engineering software such as SpaceGass and Strand7 is essential.
• Planning, organisation, verbal and written communication skills.
