Leading Hand - Civil Construction

About the role

The Leading Hand position at Wormall Civil assists in coordinating and supervising construction activities to ensure projects are completed successfully. Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Leading Hand gives hands-on leadership and support to the construction team, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, quality standards and project timelines. The role can involve supervising the project in the Site Supervisor's absence or when otherwise instructed. It is based in the North of River area (Alkimos and Upper Swan).

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate construction activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality standards and safety protocols.
• Guide and support the team by assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
• Collaborate with the Site Supervisor and other stakeholders on planning, resources and schedules.
• Assist in procuring materials and equipment and keep the site organised, including storage, tools and equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including site logistics and waste management.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, permits and contracts, and keep accurate records such as site diaries, progress and incident reports.

Required profile

• Demonstrated civil construction experience, preferably in a leadership or supervisory role; 3 years across a range of undertakings is highly desirable.
• Cert IV in Site Supervision or Leadership Management, or willingness to work towards it.
• First Aid, PVC and ATCO Gas (Common Trenching) certification, or willingness to obtain them.
• Construction Card and a valid current WA driver's licence.
• Ability to work reasonable overtime, including Saturdays, and other projects when required.

Required skills

• Knowledge of civil construction techniques, methods and safety practices.
• Understanding of construction drawings, specifications and quality standards.
• Familiarity with Western Australia's construction regulations is advantageous.
