Steelmaker (12-Month Contract, Rooty Hill)

About the role

InfraBuild, a 2026 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work Gold Winner and World Steel Association Sustainability Champion, is recruiting a Steelmaker for its Rooty Hill Steel Mill. You will join a large, experienced steelmaking crew and report directly to the Shift Leader. The mill runs 24/7, so the role involves 12-hour shifts on a rotating 7-day roster (day and night shifts). This is a 12-month contract position aimed at building confidence, learning new skills and gaining experience in the steel industry.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in comprehensive training across multiple areas of the Steel Mill
• Gain hands-on experience in a variety of manual handling roles throughout the full production process
• Develop skills in cabin crane and forklift operation

Required profile

• Safety-first attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Previous trades or labouring experience
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• Enthusiasm for learning the steelmaking process and interest in a global business with strong safety values

Required skills

• Forklift ticket (ideal but not essential)
• Basic computer literacy to learn HMI operation
