Staff Software Engineer

About the role

Join an early‑stage AI Paralegal startup within the global LegalTech business CORTO as a founding engineer. You will help build the next generation of legal software that combines AI and automation, working in a small, agile, hybrid team based in Sydney.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain end‑to‑end applications and services that power AI Paralegal workflows, from document ingestion to delivery into practice‑management systems.
• Develop and enhance the frontend user experience.
• Construct multimodal LLM pipelines over legal documents using Claude on AWS Bedrock.
• Improve LLM accuracy with schema validation, self‑correcting retry loops, and monitoring of error rates, token spend and latency.
• Introduce scaling techniques such as prompt caching, embeddings for entity matching, and retrieval of gold‑standard exemplars.
• Collaborate with legal domain experts to translate fuzzy requirements into precise schemas, validators and acceptance criteria.
• Operate the solution on AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3, Bedrock) within a Serverless Framework Python monorepo.

Required profile

• 8+ years of full‑stack software development experience.
• Proven ability to work in dynamic, ambiguous environments and make high‑stakes decisions.
• Passion for cutting‑edge AI technologies and a bias toward action.
• Strong collaboration skills and a people‑first mindset.
