Staff Data Engineer

About the role

Synechron is looking for an experienced Staff Data Engineer to join its high‑performing data team in Sydney. You will design, build and optimise scalable data pipelines and cloud‑based warehouse solutions that power enterprise analytics and business intelligence.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data solutions using Snowflake as the enterprise data platform.
• Build and manage robust data transformation frameworks with dbt, including models, macros and tests.
• Develop and optimise ELT/ETL pipelines for both structured and semi‑structured data.
• Create and maintain logical and physical data models (dimensional, star, snowflake, data vault) to support reporting requirements.
• Implement best practices for data quality, testing, governance and documentation.
• Optimise Snowflake performance, manage costs and perform query tuning.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, analysts, architects and engineers to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
• Support data migration, integration and modernisation initiatives while ensuring security and compliance.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with Snowflake Data Cloud.
• Extensive experience with dbt, including incremental loading and testing.
• Deep expertise in data modelling techniques such as dimensional, star schema, snowflake schema and data vault.
• Proven ability to build enterprise‑grade ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Advanced SQL development and performance tuning skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Familiarity with Git‑based version control and CI/CD processes.
