Job description
About the role
Rio Tinto is looking for a Specialist MRO within its MRO (Regional Goods & Services) team in the Perth office. The role covers end-to-end category management and portfolio optimisation for industrial supplies, electrical, plumbing and HVAC, hydraulics, industrial gases, drilling consumables and PPE, supplied through integrated supply partners, OEMs, distributors and local and Indigenous suppliers. It reports to the Principal Advisor, MRO (Goods and Services).
Key responsibilities
- Build data-driven fact bases for the sub-category (spend by product group, site and buying channel, contract coverage, demand patterns, supplier insights) and contribute to the wider portfolio view.
- Monitor market trends such as commodity and input costs, freight, FX and supply disruption, and turn them into practical category actions.
- Manage end-to-end sourcing events, from stakeholder briefings and tender evaluation through negotiation, award, implementation and Ariba workspace management, and draft agreements with clear pricing, indexation and service-level models.
- Implement and audit contract management controls (annual price reviews, outline agreements, tail spend) and run Supplier Relationship Management activities.
- Identify and deliver supply-base rationalisation, spend consolidation, substitution, standardisation and low-cost-country sourcing opportunities, working with maintenance, engineering, warehousing, P2P, Finance and suppliers.
Required profile
- Ideally 5+ years in procurement, supply chain, inventory or materials management, or a commercial role, ideally in mining, oil and gas, construction or other asset-intensive operations.
- Experience negotiating pricing and commercial terms or managing supplier performance, linking outcomes to site availability and total cost of ownership.
- Practical understanding of how MRO materials are planned, stocked and replenished (integrators, distributors, VMI or consignment).
- Tertiary qualification in business, supply chain, finance, engineering or a related discipline is beneficial.
Required skills
- Strong logical and analytical thinking, working with large data sets in Power BI and Excel (ideally SAP and Ariba)
- Use of data, automation and AI-enabled tools to turn findings into recommendations

- Flexible working from home as per operational requirements
- 18 weeks of gender-neutral paid parental leave, with continued superannuation contributions
- Competitive base salary with an annual incentive program
- Medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance, share ownership plan and company insurance
- Salary sacrifice and packaging options, career development and education assistance
- Family-friendly wellbeing support, leave for all life's reasons and employee discounts
