Special Class Teacher – Primary (R‑6)

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Special Class Teacher to join our Primary Campus (R‑6) at Eastern Fleurieu R‑12 School. You will provide personalised education for learners with disability, including those with complex communication and behavioural needs.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families and carers.
• Teach and support a diverse cohort of learners, including autism and intellectual disability.
• Plan, implement and assess individual learning programs using the Australian Curriculum with extensive adjustments.
• Utilise Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems such as PODD books and Proloquo2Go.
• Conduct assessments and reporting using the ABLES assessment tool.
• Apply evidence‑based strategies like Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL).
• Collaborate with classroom SSOs, other teachers and external agencies (e.g., NDIS providers).
• Contribute to whole‑school inclusion planning and promote independence and community‑based learning.

Required profile

• Qualified teacher with experience supporting learners with disability.
• Demonstrated ability to design and deliver highly personalised learning experiences.
• Strong collaboration skills with families, allied health professionals and external agencies.
• Commitment to inclusive education and continuous professional development.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AAC systems – PODD books, Proloquo2Go.
• Experience using the ABLES assessment tool.
• Knowledge of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) strategies.
