Sous Chef – Premium Airline Lounge

About the role

The Sous Chef will support the Executive Chef in delivering high‑quality, fine‑dining experiences for Qantas first‑class passengers at the Sydney First Class Lounge.

Key responsibilities

• Support daily kitchen operations and ensure dishes meet brand and airline standards.
• Supervise, mentor and motivate kitchen staff, maintaining smooth service.
• Maintain exceptional food presentation and quality across the menu.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, HACCP and WHS requirements.
• Manage stock, ordering, waste control and cost efficiency.
• Assist in menu development tailored to lounge guests and passenger volumes.
• Collaborate with front‑of‑house teams for seamless guest service.
• Act as kitchen lead in the Executive Chef’s absence.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Chef de Partie or similar supervisory role in premium, high‑volume dining.
• Strong culinary skills with ability to produce consistent, high‑quality dishes quickly.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational abilities.
• Commitment to safety, hygiene and operational excellence.
• Flexibility to work rotating rosters including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
• Fluent English communication.

Required skills

• Minimum Cert III Commercial Cookery.
• Current Food Handling Certification.
