Solutions Architect – Payments (Pre‑sales)

About the role

As a Solutions Architect within Airwallex’s Solutions Engineering team, you will partner with commercial leaders, product, and engineering to design and deliver payment solutions for strategic enterprise clients. The role blends technical architecture, pre‑sales discovery, and hands‑on integration support.

Key responsibilities

• Drive thought leadership and build executive relationships with key business and technical stakeholders.
• Lead the full pre‑sales discovery process, translate complex requirements into scalable architectural designs, and own RFP responses and proof‑of‑concepts.
• Oversee end‑to‑end implementation delivery for strategic accounts, ensuring best‑practice integration and a superior developer experience.
• Collaborate with product and engineering to troubleshoot API interactions and support technical onboarding.
• Produce white papers, competitor studies, and contribute to “how to win” strategies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with strong academic achievements.
• At least 10 years of experience in a customer‑facing engineering role (solution consultant, solutions architect, sales engineer) within a global software or payments company.
• Proven executive engagement skills and ability to build credibility with senior decision‑makers.
• Strong organizational and time‑management abilities to juggle multiple opportunities.
• Passion for learning, independent problem‑solving, and strategic thinking.

Required skills

• Experience with at least one major programming language (PHP, Ruby, Python, JavaScript, Java, etc.).
• Deep understanding of RESTful API integration into web applications.
• Knowledge of payments domain and financial services (advantageous).
• Ability to design compliant, scalable payment solutions and create technical demos.
