Software Systems Engineer - Research & Technology

About the role

The Software Systems Engineer – Research & Technology will join a small, high‑performing team at the Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Redbank, Queensland. You will be responsible for creating software engineering artefacts throughout the product development lifecycle, from planning and architecture to code and qualification documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop software development plans, system architectures and source code.
• Produce qualification material and ensure compliance with defence standards.
• Integrate software components using multiple programming languages and operating systems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to capture customer needs and translate them into technical solutions.
• Support system‑level testing and verification activities.

Required profile

• Degree in Software Engineering, IT, Mechatronics, Aerospace or a related field.
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain a government security clearance.
• Willingness to travel interstate and internationally as required.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python or C++ development.
• Experience with software‑defined networking.
• Comfortable working in Linux environments and using virtual machines.
