Software Engineer – Functional Programming

About the role

Bellroy is expanding its bespoke e‑commerce platform and needs a developer who lives and breathes functional programming. You will help build elegant, observable systems that support global marketplace integrations and the launch of new carry‑goods.

Key responsibilities

• Extend and maintain the core e‑commerce platform using functional languages.
• Integrate with digital marketplaces and internal services.
• Collaborate with product design, data science, logistics and other cross‑functional teams.
• Ensure systems are correct, observable and evolve gracefully.
• Occasionally work with legacy Ruby on Rails code that interfaces with Haskell services.

Required profile

• 2+ years of production experience in a functional language (e.g., Haskell, Clojure, Elixir, Scala, etc.).
• Passion for crafting well‑designed, lasting code over rapid delivery.
• Enjoy continuous learning and intellectual honesty.
• Curiosity for new ideas and a desire to use business as a force for good.

Required skills

• Functional programming languages: Haskell, Clojure, Elixir, F#, Scala, OCaml, Erlang, Rust, Kotlin, Swift.
• Experience with Nix (nice to have).
• Familiarity with the AWS ecosystem.
• Ability to navigate Ruby on Rails codebases.
