Software Engineer - AI

About the role

Lendi Group, a digital mortgage and property finance business, is hiring a Software Engineer - AI for its AI Engineering team in Sydney. You will build AI-powered products and agentic systems that support brokers, teams and customers, working on greenfield projects across the full stack, from React frontends and TypeScript/Node.js services to cloud infrastructure and event-driven integrations. This is a 12-month fixed-term mat leave cover position (strong possibility of permanent) with hybrid working (2 days in office).

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain AI-powered applications, agentic systems and supporting services.
• Develop full-stack solutions with TypeScript, Node.js and React, covering frontend, backend services, APIs and integrations.
• Build and integrate AI agents and intelligent workflows using RAG, prompt engineering, orchestration, structured outputs and evaluation.
• Contribute to greenfield projects, shaping technical design, architecture and implementation from the ground up.
• Develop scalable, event-driven services using AWS, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Kafka and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Own engineering work from design and development through testing, deployment, production verification and ongoing improvement.
• Work with engineers, product teams and stakeholders to understand business problems and challenge requirements.
• Debug complex issues using logs, tracing and evidence-based problem solving, and take part in code reviews.
• Deliver iteratively, use AI-assisted development tools with sound judgement, and stay current with emerging AI technologies.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on experience with TypeScript, Node.js and React.
• Experience building or integrating AI-powered applications through professional work or substantial personal projects.
• Familiarity with LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, agent orchestration, evaluation, context management and tracing.
• Proactive, ownership-driven approach, able to work independently and manage dependencies.
• Strong product thinking, commercial awareness and excellent communication and collaboration skills.
