Senior/Principal Designer – Roads & Highways (12D)

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Designer to lead civil and transport design packages for large‑scale road and rail projects across New South Wales and the broader ANZ region. Based in Sydney, you will work within a high‑performing team delivering complex infrastructure solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design of civil and transport packages on major infrastructure projects.
• Drive best‑practice use of 12D, ensuring quality, accuracy and seamless integration with BIM workflows.
• Mentor junior designers and foster a high‑performance technical culture.
• Collaborate with engineers, digital specialists and external partners to influence design outcomes.
• Provide expert technical guidance to clients and project stakeholders.

Required profile

• 10+ years of civil/transport design experience on major infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and deliver high‑quality design solutions.
• Strong communication skills and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
