Senior Water Resources Engineer (Drainage)

About the role

SMEC is seeking an Experienced/Senior Drainage Engineer to join its Queensland Water Resources team. You will work on a diverse portfolio of water and transport‑related projects across Queensland and the wider ANZ region, delivering innovative and compliant drainage solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design innovative drainage systems for civil infrastructure projects.
• Lead and coordinate drainage design components to meet project and client requirements.
• Partner with Principal Engineers on large‑scale, complex projects and own deliverables.
• Prepare high‑quality technical design reports and drawing packages.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Bachelor or Master’s).
• 4+ years’ experience in drainage design, preferably on transport or major infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of Austroads guidelines, standards and specifications.
• Hands‑on capability in stormwater and drainage design, including open channels, culverts, pit and pipe systems.
• Positive, collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 12D.
• Proficiency in DRAINS.
• Proficiency in MUSIC.
• Experience with dynamic drainage modelling in 12D and/or TUFLOW (desirable).
